Purpose
Individuals with epilepsy and their families know how devastating epilepsy
is. Numbers cannot convey the personal pain, loss, and daily struggles
brought on by this disease.
Estimates suggest that 40% of the 2.5 million individuals in the United
States with epilepsy are not able to control it either through medications
or surgery. Those who have some control over this disease may endure
side effects from the medication(s) and/or surgery.
The goal of this conference is simple yet profound. We want a cure
for epilepsy! Conference attendees will be asked to focus on one question:
WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER TO CURE EPILEPSY?
It is my hope that this conference will produce a new paradigm and
blueprint for directing the course of epilepsy research.
You have to live with hope. It is my hope that the ideas generated
by this conference will eventually lead to a cure for epilepsy.
Sincerely,
Susan Eik Filstead
