About SEF

The Susan Eik Filstead Stroke and Epilepsy Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in August, 1999, as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable foundation registered in the State of Illinois.

Through professional and community educational programs, SEF hopes to increase the public's awareness of these problems and challenge the research community to find a cure.

The Foundation is committed to education and improving the quality of care, life and relationships for individuals and their families who live with the daily reality of stroke and epilepsy.

Ultimately, the Foundation is committed to finding a cure for epilepsy and reversing the damage caused by stroke.

The Foundation provides awards to institutions and organizations.

Individuals are not eligible for awards.

    Gifts: The following have received funds from SEF

    1. Indiana University School of Medicine
      Department of Neurology
      Purpose: Medical Education.
    2. Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
      Purpose: Improve the quality of life of stroke survivors.
    3. Indiana University School of Medicine
      Department of Neurology
      Purpose: Funds to provide adult and pediatric epilepsy services.

    Presentations: Available to speak on a variety of topics that discuss the impact of stroke and epilepsy on:
    Motherhood, Marriage and Relationships.

    In addition, presentations can be made that focus on delivery of health care, the need for compassion, and the doctor-patient relationship.
